While I disagree with the editorial regarding Project Labor Agreements I do agree with the statement that it is “No surprise, Massachusetts wasn’t on the list” of states prohibiting PLAs (“End unpopular pacts,” July 28). The successful use of PLAs to deliver high quality construction, on time and on budget for numerous private projects like Mass. General Hospital, Bristol Myers Squibb, Harvard University, the Boston Garden, Reebok and Gillette Stadium is duly recognized as a sound business model by state and local governments in Massachusetts. This success has been duplicated on multiple public projects including the Malden schools, the award-winning Worcester Courthouse, Logan Airport and others.
The Herald editorializes that government should adopt private sector business practices. Private sector owners use PLAs because they work. Why should taxpayers be denied the right to even consider using this model?
